Across the continent. From south to north.

By bus.

So start in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, final destination in Bogotà, the capital of Colombia. Whether it will be so easy, is questionable, but of course also exciting.

Possible obstacles on my dream path are well known: Paraguay, maybe Bolivia and Peru ... We'll see.

First of all it's a matter of simply getting on the plane and flying off …

Everything else will turn out. As it always does. As everywhere. In India . Myanmar. Southeast Asia. Ladakh. Laos. ...

Traveling is the goal …

South America

Google Maps has calculated the approximate route: just 10’000 kilometers, many hours on the bus. It remains to be seen whether the estimate is correct.

However, when I think about my injured knee, I have doubts. The orthopedic surgeon found it a pretty stupid idea ("take enough painkillers").

Almost 150 hours on the bus? Or more? In run-down vehicles like the ones in India or Southeast Asia? Hardly any room for legs and feet? Endless hours in heat or cold (or both together with appropriate air conditioning)?

It doesn't matter. Or should I admit that it is the reason to realize the plan?

The trip

As always, everything is different. Distances, heat, cold, bus rides, knee pain … all expected, many things occur, others do not.

But wonderful encounters. People who couldn't be more different. Faces that speak of poverty and dignity. Endless vastness, where the mind might get lost. Nature, alive and maltreated.

And again and again people.

They make the journey a trip into one' s own inner self. And sometimes, even if rarely, this one fleeting moment happens, when everything seems right. Not when it comes to the big things like the Iguazu waterfall. It's the small moments. On a park bench, when a little child looks at me with big eyes. And begins to smile.

That's all it takes. It's so easy ...

And here the journey begins ...
